This 1960’s home in Highland Village, TX had space and potential but needed a major facelift. The dark paneling on the ceiling and walls made the space feel closed in, and the oversized fireplace took up far too much room for the interest it created.
We completely rebuilt the fireplace, resulting in a smaller profile and a much more open living space. We used reclaimed brick with messy mortar and an ornate mantel to channel a French country cottage look.

A wall dividing the kitchen and living room isolated the kitchen, resulting in very little work space and even less space for entertaining. Outdated lighting contributed to the overall dark feeling of the house.
To open up the space, we knocked out the wall between the kitchen and living room. Since this wall was load-bearing, we installed a beam and wrapped it with knotty alder. All the flooring (a mix of carpet and linoleum) was replaced with engineered hardwood flooring, creating continuity between the two living spaces with the kitchen in between.
In the kitchen, the layout was completely rearranged to open up the space and accommodate an island. We installed new custom cabinetry, colonial white granite counters, a sleek subway tile backsplash and a farmhouse sink.

we are giving our kitchen a refresh – painting cabinets, new countertops, backsplash and hardware. We are using leathered colonial white counters and this kitchen has pretty much become my inspiration. Can you tell me what the white color is on the main cabinets? We will be using Behr Coal Dust (or some name like that that is very dark) for the island but can’t find a good white that isn’t too yellow. Also, where did you get the cabinet hardware?
thanks in advance for your help.
We usually use Sherwin Williams Extra White for a pure white look! This project is a few years old now, so unfortunately I no longer have info on the hardware. Best of luck with your kitchen!
