The Windsor Bathrooms project is a collection of bathrooms, including the master, in a Corinth, TX home where we’ve had the pleasure of working many times over the past few years. Our first project at the Windsor house was the kitchen (see the blog here).
In all four bathrooms, our main goal was to update the materials to a more current aesthetic. While our focus of this Before & After blog is the master bathroom, we’ll also give you a peek at the transformation of all the bathrooms in the home!

Our clients wanted to keep two separate vanities, but increase the storage space in both. The shower felt tucked away in a corner behind the linen closet, so we planned to open it up by removing the closet and adding a large sliding glass door. A freestanding bathtub was also at the top of the requirements list.
Our goals were to give the bathroom a striking focal point (the freestanding tub, arched window, and board and batten), make the bathroom feel larger, and generally update the design to coordinate with other areas of the home that we’ve renovated.

The Windsor House itself is stately and traditional, located in a well-established and manicured neighborhood. Our clients love the look of farmhouse design. However, erring too far on the side of shabby chic or farmhouse rustic would result in a bathroom that didn’t flow with the rest of the home. Instead we focused on timeless elegance with hints of farmhouse style. In lieu of shiplap, a farmhouse staple, we installed board and batten trim around the bathtub for a more traditional feel. The warm taupe tones of the stone-look floor tile keep the color palette of the bathroom from feeling too cold or sterile, yet the herringbone pattern adds some flair. For the shower walls, our clients chose a unique spin on the subway tile that’s so popular in farmhouse design. The handmade texture and creamy color tie in with the “new traditional” look we wanted to achieve while still channeling the clean white simplicity of subway tile.
Our clients found wallpaper for the water closet before any other design decisions were made, and knew they wanted to pick up the dark blue color in the paper somewhere else in the bathroom. We decided to use Sherwin Williams Waterloo on the vanities. It provides a striking contrast with the light floor tile and light walls, and is among our top favorite design elements in this bathroom.
We demoed the entire bathroom and built it back up from scratch. While planning the bathroom design, we decided to install casing all the way around the arched window behind the bathtub and tie it into the board and batten trim carpentry to really make the window a focal point. We planned to remove the fur down around the window as it made the corner feel a little awkward. Once we tore into it, we realized removing it wouldn’t be possible and had to revise our plan. We built out the entire wall to the same depth as the vanity wall so we could create enough flat wall space around the window for a casing. In the end, this solution looked better than the original plan. The window is now recessed, making it even more striking.
