The Blue Horizon Kitchen
INTRO
We’re excited to share the incredible journey of our latest renovation, where classic design meets modern luxury. This project was a unique collaboration with our clients, resulting in spaces that blend functionality with aesthetic appeal. By completely overhauling the kitchen and dining room, we transformed these areas from outdated and confined into open, stylish, and highly practical spaces perfect for culinary creativity and social gatherings.
Join us as we take you through this remarkable transformation, showcasing how innovative design and meticulous craftsmanship can breathe new life into a home.
BEFORE
Imagine a kitchen that felt dark and cluttered, with outdated cabinets and a layout that stifled movement. The dining room was separated from the living area by a stark wall, creating a disjointed feel throughout the home. The entire space lacked the openness and warmth desired for modern family life and entertaining guests.
The kitchen featured old, worn-out cabinets, a small pantry, and a refrigerator that awkwardly blocked the flow of movement. The dining room, isolated by a dividing wall, felt cramped and underutilized. The flooring throughout the house was mismatched and added to the fragmented feeling of the home.
Our clients envisioned a more cohesive and inviting space. They selected us for our ability to transform their vision into reality, creating a home that would enhance their everyday living experience.
Choosing the right team for the job isn’t easy. Our clients stated the factors that were involved in their decision to pick Irwin Construction:
“We saw great reviews on Nextdoor and had seen them in the “Best of Denton” publication. We checked out their website and loved the look of their projects. Once we met with Jeremy and heard his ideas for our space we knew we wanted to work with them.“
DURING
The renovation process began with a complete overhaul of the existing layout and features. In the kitchen, we removed all existing cabinetry and replaced it with new Shaker style cabinets that extend to the ceiling, offering ample storage. The new Cambria Inverness Frost quartz countertops, including two jumbo slabs, added a touch of luxury and durability. We installed a Blanco Precis undermount silgranite sink and a Brizo Artesso SmartTouch pull-down faucet in Luxe Gold, along with a matching disposal flange and disposal.
To enhance the kitchen’s aesthetic, we installed a Marazzi Zellige Gesso 4″ x 4″ ceramic tile backsplash with Custom Snow White grout. The ceiling and trim were repaired and repainted to ensure a polished finish. We touched up the walls, though touch-ups may not match the existing paint exactly. The new kitchen island, painted in Sherwin Williams Moody Blue, provided a bold contrast and became the centerpiece of the room.
Lighting played a crucial role in this transformation. We installed elegant Savoy House Crawford Warm Brass Pendants over the island, which not only enhanced the style but also provided essential illumination. LED recessed lights and under-cabinet lighting ensured the kitchen was well-lit and inviting.
In the dining room, we framed a new 3″ wall between the dining and living areas and installed new drywall. We introduced board and batten carpentry on all three walls, approximately 65″ high, and on the back side of the peninsula. This created a classic and sophisticated look. The walls were textured and painted, along with the window and door casings, to seamlessly integrate with the rest of the home.
The entryway was transformed with the installation and staining of a new front door, adding a welcoming touch that set the tone for the rest of the home.
Throughout the house, we replaced the old flooring with engineered hardwood, providing a cohesive and warm foundation. The laundry room received a special touch with STP Tile London’s herringbone pattern tile flooring, enhancing the overall aesthetic. The staircase was updated with new wood flooring and railing, contributing to the seamless and stylish look of the renovation.
AFTER
As the renovation came to completion, the true beauty and functionality of these transformed spaces were revealed. The kitchen now features stunning Cambria Inverness Frost quartz countertops, a chic Marazzi Zellige Gesso tile backsplash, and an elegant, functional layout. The new cabinetry, hardware, and light fixtures, including Savoy House Crawford Warm Brass Pendants, create a harmonious and welcoming atmosphere.
The kitchen island, painted in Moody Blue, not only serves as a practical workspace but also as a vibrant focal point. The stained wood apron on the vent hood adds a rustic yet refined touch, perfectly balancing the modern and traditional elements.
The dining room’s board and batten walls, painted in Sherwin Williams Pure White, add a timeless elegance that complements the modern kitchen design. The new engineered hardwood flooring throughout the house ties everything together, enhancing the flow and aesthetic of the home.
The entryway, with its beautifully stained new front door, provides a warm and inviting welcome, setting the tone for the rest of the home.
Key features to note include the convenient countertop disposal button in the kitchen, the stylish herringbone brick-look tile in the laundry room, and the newly installed wood flooring and railing on the staircase. Every detail was carefully selected to ensure both beauty and functionality.
Some of the special features in this project includes:
- Countertop Disposal Button: A small but significant addition, the countertop disposal button adds convenience and a modern touch to the kitchen, making waste disposal easier and more efficient.
- Herringbone Brick-Look Tile in Laundry Room: This unique tile pattern in the laundry room not only adds visual interest but also provides a durable and easy-to-clean surface, perfect for high-traffic areas.
- Board and Batten in Dining Room: The board and batten detailing in the dining room adds a touch of sophistication and elegance, creating a visually appealing space that complements the rest of the home’s design.
- New Wood Flooring and Railing on Staircase: The new wood flooring and railing on the staircase seamlessly integrate with the rest of the home’s updated flooring, creating a cohesive and stylish look throughout.
- Light Fixtures Over the Island: The Savoy House Crawford Warm Brass Pendants over the kitchen island serve as both functional lighting and stylish focal points, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the space.
- Stained Wood Apron on Vent Hood: The stained wood apron on the vent hood adds a rustic charm to the kitchen, balancing the modern elements with a touch of traditional design.
- Feet on Kitchen Cabinets: The custom feet on the kitchen cabinets add a unique and stylish detail, elevating the overall look and feel of the cabinetry.
Our clients LOVED the end result of their beautiful addition and had this to say:
“The team at Irwin Construction was top-notch and working with their crew was a wonderful experience. They really were able to make our vision for our home a reality.“
The final result is a stunning transformation that perfectly aligns with our clients’ lifestyle and aesthetic preferences. This project demonstrates how thoughtful design and expert craftsmanship can turn any space into a stunning and functional area for everyday living.
Our clients are overjoyed with their new kitchen and dining room, and we are thrilled to share this journey with you. We hope this project inspires you to see the potential in your own home and consider how a well-executed renovation can elevate your living space.
