Olive and Clay Bathroom Escape

BEFOREAFTER

INTRO

We are thrilled to share one of our most recent transformations: The Olive and Clay Bathroom Escape. At Irwin Construction, we believe in transforming houses into homes, and this project beautifully exemplifies how a well-executed renovation can turn a simple room into an inspiring retreat, thoughtfully curated to meet our clients’ wants and needs.

What started as a straightforward bathroom update quickly evolved into a complete transformation. We crafted a space that seamlessly blends earthy tones, luxurious textures, and modern functionality, creating a sanctuary that feels both timeless and contemporary.

Here’s a closer look at how we brought this vision to life with our signature attention to detail and unwavering commitment to quality.

BEFORE

The original bathroom was a dated space in need of both functionality and style. With its outdated fixtures, cramped layout, and lack of storage, it didn’t meet the practical and aesthetic needs of our clients. Their vision was clear: they dreamed of a bathroom that would not only serve as a serene escape but also offer a sense of warmth and connection to nature. They envisioned a space with ample storage, natural materials, and modern features, all designed with their busy family lifestyle in mind. The goal was to create a functional yet tranquil retreat that reflected their style while meeting the everyday needs of their family.

As our clients shared,

“It was too compact and cluttered; the toilet was right beside the shower door and the entry narrow which made it difficult to have more than one person in the bathroom – extra difficult to try to shower the kids!”

At Irwin Construction, we understand that feeling of trying to make it work, but the space just isn’t meeting your family’s needs. That’s why we focused on transforming this bathroom into a practical yet peaceful retreat that supports their family’s lifestyle and captures their unique style.

DURING

We’ve walked with hundreds of families through the renovation journey—and we know how personal it is. So from start to finish, we focused on bringing the vision our clients had for their space to life, all while ensuring it would meet their family’s needs for years to come.

What began as a simple bathroom update quickly became a complete transformation after discovering an unexpected HVAC chase when we opened up the wall right where we’d intended to build the shower. We solved this issue by installing a built-in to the left of the shower (that left space for the chase behind it) and moving the shower to the right. While the bathroom renovation required some creative problem-solving, we were able to adapt and find the best way to create this spa-like space.

Our goal for the staircase was to bring it in line with the modern yet warm aesthetic we were creating throughout the house.

BATHROOM DESIGN VISION & LAYOUT ADJUSTMENTS

The palette was carefully chosen to incorporate earthy tones—rich greens, warm russet hues, and creamy neutrals—to create a calming and grounded atmosphere. By mixing textures and introducing subtle variations in color, we avoided the typical “builder grade beige” look, ensuring the space felt dynamic and full of life.

To maximize space, we added pocket doors—an elegant solution for maintaining privacy while making the room feel open and airy.

Custom cabinetry was designed to reflect the modern aesthetic while maintaining the home’s sense of warmth and function. The built-in next to the shower added clever storage without crowding the space, while a matching medicine cabinet ensured every inch of the bathroom was optimized.

BATHROOM FEATURES:

The wall-to-wall shampoo niche became a focal point of the custom shower. Designed to hold all essential bath products, it perfectly blended form and function. Wall-mounted faucets brought a modern, sleek look to the vanity area while helping to free up counter space, aligning with the room’s clean lines and contemporary feel.

The freestanding tub, placed at the heart of the room, became a show-stopping feature, drawing the eye and inviting relaxation. New floor tile in a warm pattern provided depth, texture, and sophistication to the space, while the newly textured and painted walls added to the bathroom’s serene ambiance.

AFTER

The completion of this bathroom marks a true transformation—one that reflects our clients’ style and enhances their daily living experience. What was once a cramped, outdated bathroom has become a serene escape, offering a perfect balance of modern design and family functionality. The space is now a sanctuary that’s as welcoming and tranquil as it is practical, meeting the needs of a busy family while providing an opportunity to unwind.

With the addition of thoughtful features like pocket doors, custom cabinetry, and a freestanding tub, the bathroom now feels open and airy, a far cry from its previous limitations. The space has evolved into a harmonious retreat, where every element, from the earthy tones to the modern fixtures, works together to create a warm, inviting atmosphere. And the biggest change of all, according to our client:

“Expanding the space of the bathroom! We extended the space into a hall closet and reconfigured the shower and toilet – now they are on complete opposite ends of the space and the toilet now has its own room! We also added several storage nooks that have helped to optimize the space.”

This renovation is a testament to how thoughtful design and careful attention to detail can truly transform a home. We take pride in our work, our conduct, and our craftsmanship—delivering exceptional quality with professionalism, respect, and a commitment to excellence in every detail.

Our clients LOVED the end result of their beautiful home and had this to say:

We have had some challenging experiences with contractors in the past but the experience with Irwin Construction was a cut above the rest! They exceeded the industry standards in all areas – great communication, respect for the space, timely progress, exceptional quality, and highly professional. We will absolutely be using their expertise again in the future as we continue our home renovations and recommend them to anyone and everyone!”

It’s not just about a renovated space; it’s about creating a home that works for the family, offering both function and beauty in every detail. Thank you for checking out all the information about our project! We look forward to bringing more inspired transformations to life in future projects!
