This project was especially exciting as it was our own master bathroom! While the room had great bones, the design was decades out of date (cultured marble and seashell sinks!). The tiled wall enclosing the tub/shower cut the room in half, making it feel small and cramped. The vaulted ceiling added great interest, but the design didn’t utilize its potential as a feature in the room. We had ample counter space on the long vanity, but cabinet storage was lacking due to the outdated vanity cutout. While we appreciated the closet storage space, the old sliding door had been removed and the curtain separating the closet from the bathroom made the transition feel cluttered.
Before
The Modern Farmhouse Bathroom was a complete gut even though we didn’t change the layout of the bathroom. The only items that remained at the end were the window and the toilet!

The Process
After
We wanted the bathroom to feel light and clean, yet interesting. Kelley leans towards designing with neutral colors and a lot of texture. In this room we liked the contrasting textures of the shiplap, subway tile, herringbone marble tile in the shampoo niche, large grain of the cedar accents, and the various textiles we used in decorating. These varying surfaces add interest where the color palette is minimal.
The bathroom needed updated lighting, so we added 4 LED can lights and industrial-inspired vanity fixtures. We had our cabinetry custom-made, and Jeremy made the matching barn door, vanity mirrors, picture frames and cedar caps for the pony wall and ledge. Some of our other favorite details are the rain shower head and the outlets inside the vanity drawers.

Can you tell me how/where to find those exact vanity lights??
They are made by Kichler Lighting and sold at Lowes
Can you tell me the color of the cabinets?
All the paint color information is listed in the sources at the end of the blog post!
After looking at the Sherwin Williams website, it looks to me like the Walls are actually ‘Pavestone’ and the Vanity is ‘Pussywillow’ (not the other way around). I could be wrong, just an observation. Kelly, could you please confirm. Thank you.
I LOVE the bathroom by the way, my absolute favorite!
Thank you! The colors are actually correct as-is on the blog with Pavestone for the vanity and Pussywillow for the walls. We’re glad you like the project!
So gorgeous!!! Love it all😍
What stain did you use for the wood elements?
We used Provincial!
Can you please tell me what type of electrical conduit was used for the drawer outlet? I’m researching how to do this for my remodel.
We put an outlet in the wall and a shallow junction box in the back of the drawer. After that you can run either MC wire or extension cord wiring between the two. Good luck with your remodel!
Love this… could you share the countertop used on the vanity, and also the plumbing fixture line?
Thank you! The counters are Colonial White granite, the sink faucets are Kohler and the shower trim kit is Delta.
Love the tub. The edge width is narrow. Good for little legs!
Could you tell me the company/brand?
Thanks for such inspiring designs.
Thank you! The tub is the Kohler Expanse 5′ Acrylic.
Do you have any tips of the mirrored door? Would love to do one myself!
Cabinets are gorgeous! Could you tell me the color you used?
Love love LOVE your bathroom remodel! Can you please tell me the info about your cabinet pulls????
Thank you! The pulls are by Amerock, purchased on Amazon
Hi- Gorgeous bathroom! Getting ready to shiplap the main wall in our bathroom. Can I trouble you for the info of the type of wood, size, and installation info (or a link where to find the info) please?
Thanks!
Thank you! We used tongue-and-groove pine shiplap, 12′ planks of 8″ wide and 1″ thick, and secured it to the drywall with a 16-guage pin gun. On this project we installed it with a slight space between the planks (often called a nickel gap).
Amazing before and after! I have a very similar layout and sun exposure in my bath and am painting next week. Would you mind sharing what paint colors did you use for the vanity, walls, and shiplap?
Best of luck on your project! All the paint colors are listed at the bottom of the blog post!
Your bathroom is gorgeous, I am using it as part inspiration for a remodel I’m working on. Where did you get the shower curtain rod that hangs from the ceiling? I am doing a pony wall at the end of my bathtub and need a similar rack to hang the curtains on. Thanks,
lesliewilliams at hotmail dot com
Thank you! The corner shower curtain rod is from Signature Hardware.
this bathroom remodel is a dream and that mirrored barn closet door is what i’ve been searching for DIY instructions literally the past week (for our bathroom and closet doors). does you happen to have a breakdown of build instructions? my fear is building it and not supporting the mirrored part or backing correctly. my initial thought was to just find an oversized floor mirror and purchase the hardware to mount and hang it, but i’d much rather build my own like i envisioned it. thanks in advance!
Thank you! We do not currently have DIY instructions. We also considered framing a pre-made full-length mirror, but ended up ordering a custom mirror from our glass company so we could control the dimensions. There is shiplap on the back of the door holding all in place. Best of luck with your remodel!
If you don’t mind me asking, How much did you spend on the custom size mirror? We are considering this as our closet sliding door and are just pricing everything out. Appreciate your insight!
That’s a tricky question, as custom glass/mirror pricing varies based on your region and availability in your area. Your best bet is to call around to local glass fabricators to get quotes based on the specific size mirror you need!
love your bathroom remodel! using this as inspiration for our children’s bath remodel. How many inches is your vanity? It looks closer to 70. We can only fit 60, so I don’t think I can do the double drawers, which I love on yours. Also, what brand and style are the sink faucets? Thank you so much!
Thank you! The vanity is 87″ long – we had it custom-made to fit the space.
Thank you. Wow that is long! What brand and style are the sink faucets? Thank you!
I’m sorry you already listed that information on your post. I found it, thanks.
This is…. OUTSTANDING! Beautiful work…. absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
Thank you!
Absolutely gorgeous! I have similar angles in my house. How did you measure the angle to get the shiplap to fit so well?
We just measured the long cut and short cut for each board on that was installed against the sloped ceiling, taking into account the height of the board (7.5″). So we essentially just measured the angle!
Where did you find your Towels? Thank you!
Target 🙂
We are doing our bathroom in shiplap and I wondered if you had any problems with the knots in the pine showing through…was there a specific grade of pine that you used?
There are definitely knots in the pine, but we actually like the character of them and did not fill them prior to painting. It adds to the texture of the wall! However, if you DON’T want knots you can always fill them before painting.
We have just finish the remodel of our bsthroom and I know that it is quite some work. You have done an amazing job and the finishes are so perfect. You must be quite proud of yourselves. This ia a BIG 10! Again, AMAZING.
Thank you, Louise! Those are very kind words and we appreciate the encouragement!
Amazing before and after! We are currently in the middle of a remodel and I’m actually curious to know how you added trim to that window? We have a window like that up in our living room and I would love to add trim to it like you guys did. Thanks!
Thank you! We used a 4′ x 8′ sheet of plywood and cut the arch out for the window casing. On the inside of the window we used two pieces of 1/8″ plywood so it would have enough flex to match the curve of the window. We secured it all with a pin gun and construction adhesive. Best of luck on your project!
Hi, beautiful remodel! Where did you purchase your shiplap?
Thank you! We order it through 84 Lumber.
Would love to know how you made the mirror door. Its is perfect and just what I am looking for .
Thank you! At this time we don’t have a tutorial on the door, but maybe we’ll look at putting one together in the future!
Very nice. Where did you order the cabinet/vanity?
It was custom-built for this space!
Where did you get the door pull/ lock???
Home Depot!
Do you know the stain color used on the mirror and barn door?
This is a beautiful bathroom!! Can you share where you got the hardware and track for your barn door?
Thank you! We ordered it from Amazon!
Gorgeous bathroom!
Wondering the brand/name of those hooks and toilet paper holder are? Inspired by this redo. Thanks!
Thank you! The hooks are Delta Ashlyn, and I honestly can’t remember what the toilet paper holder is!
What kind of door handles did you use? Where did you buy them? Thanks!
I love the barn door! I want to build a barn door in my bathroom. How can I get the type of lumber, mirror and measurements. Thanks
Thank you! We currently don’t have the specs or the tutorial for building the door available. We will look into that in the future!
Your wood tray in vanity where is that from? Please beautiful space!!
Target!
Hi! I’d love to order your subway tile, but I can’t seem to figure out how to do so. How did you order yours? Thanks!
We ordered through the local wholesale supplier that we use. It is not sold in big box stores. Your best bet is to check around your local tile vendors and see if any can order it in for you!
What a beautiful bathroom! Thank you for sharing. Where did you get and what size are the it is well and joy of the Lord signs?
Thank you! We purchased pdfs of the signs from Etsy and had them printed. We made the 8×10 frames to match the other wood elements of the room.
Did you just buy a basic white vanity without a top and paint it?
The vanity was custom-built for this project
Hi Kelly,
I LOVE your bathroom remodel! We are in the process of redoing our bathroom and yours is our inspiration! ! Quick question if you don’t mind. Is the stained wood trim in the bathroom pine? How many coats of the provincial stain did you use? Thank you for sharing all of these details with us!
Kelley………sorry I misspelled it!
Never mind. I think from what you said in the description that it is all cedar accents. Thanks!
Thank you! We used cedar, and only one coat of stain. Best on your bathroom project!
Hello – I bought the exact paint colors you have listed, but the Sherwin Williams pussywillow looks baby blue on our walls! Any idea what the issue might be?
Lighting! All aspects of lighting – overhead, vanity lighting, sunlight – in a room affect how color looks. The colors of all your other materials will affect this also. The best way to choose a color is from samples in your own space with the lighting that will be in the finished product!
What kind and size of wood, and spacing was used for the shiplap?
We used 8″ pine shiplap with a nickel gap.
Where did you buy the framed quotes in the bathroom?
The prints are from Etsy and we custom made the frames to match the rest of the cedar in the bathroom!
Love your bathroom! What type of recessed lighting do you recommend in the bathroom and is there a rule on how many you need?
Thank you! Depending on the size of the room, we use either 4″ or 6″ recessed LED can lights. We don’t have a hard and fast rule for how many to use, but we do try to make sure they’re symmetrical in the space!
Hi. I love this bathroom. I have seen a few requests for tutorial on how to make that gorgeous sliding barn door. Any news on if/how that is progressing? This is the exact style of door I want to use in my master bedroom remodel. Thanks so much!
Thank you! We might do a tutorial in the future, but do not have a timeline for that at this time!
Love the bathroom! I was wondering where you bought both of the shower heads from?
Thank you! They’re Delta (Ashlyn series) – we purchased them on Amazon.
Where is the hardware on the cabinets from?
Amazon!
Beautiful! Can you share the brand/style name of the cabinet hardware?
Thank you! It’s Amerock Blackrock, purchased from Amazon.
Wow!!! Gorgeous! Gorgeous! How much would you say you spent on this whole project? I know price varies depending on location but just would like to have an idea! Thanks!
Hi! I see that your renovation was complete a couple of years ago so I’m not sure if you’re still answering questions. However I’ve had my eye on this same bat time for several months now and I really need to purchase one in the next couple of weeks because that’s where were at in our renovation. What do you say that this is a deeper turn the typical/standard bathtub? I see that your renovation was complete a couple of years ago so I’m not sure if you’re still answering questions. However I’ve had my eye on this same bathtub for several months now and I really need to purchase one in the next couple of weeks because that’s where we are at in our renovation. Would you say that this is a deeper tub than a typical/standard bathtub? I can look up the specifications on their website but I can’t really tell if it’s any deeper than a standard tub? Your remodel is beautiful and it has been a huge inspiration for ours!
Thank you! I’m so glad to hear it’s inspired you! The Kohler tub we used does have a bit more soaking depth than the typical 30″ bathtub. With a tub that’s also being used for a shower you don’t want to go too deep, or it becomes difficult to get in and out of the shower. We found this to be a good medium and were happy with our choice!
outstanding and congrats on a this beauty. can you share what brand of the provincial stain. (ie minwax, varathane, etc). oddly they vary. thank you in advance.
Thank you! We used Minwax stain. In our experience, the consistency of Varathane stain is not as even as Minwax. We do use Varathane polyurethane, though!
Thank you! I just happened upon these photos when planning my bath remodel and was inspired. love your style and look forward to your other/future projects.
Hi. Do you remember what brand and style you undermount sinks are?
We don’t have the manufacturer and style number – these are our standard sinks provided by our counter installer!
Hi! I love your bathroom. I am remodeling mine and using many of your ideas. I love then paint colors. What finish did you use on the shiplap and wall? Thank you!!
Thank you! The sheen on the shiplap is semi-gloss and the wall is eggshell. Best of luck with your bathroom!
What a beautiful makeover! Thanks for sharing, and thanks for including all the products for reference!
Hello, are the Delta fixtures Black or Venetian Bronze? Thank you
The bathroom faucets are actually Kohler ORB (exact model here), and the shower fixtures are Delta in Venetian Bronze, which you can find here!
Beautiful work and attention to details!
