The Texas Gate House is located outside town down a windy rural road. Set on over 2 acres and built in 2000, the Texas Gate House is the ideal country farmhouse complete with a large front porch and dormer windows. It earned its name from the cattle guard at the entrance of the long driveway. Cattle guards are humorously called “Texas Gates” in Canada where Kelley grew up, and the name stuck.

Our clients love farmhouse design and wanted the inside of the home to match the farmhouse feel of the exterior. The home already had many custom features, but our clients wanted to create a kitchen and master bathroom that better aligned with their style.

Before

Our first objective was to change the layout of the kitchen. We removed the partial wall between the kitchen and living room and installed a beam in its place. We stained and distressed it to add to the farmhouse vibe of the space. The doorway from the kitchen to the office was closed off, giving us the ability to create a corner pantry.

In the master bathroom, our clients desired to do away with the bathtub and utilize the space for a large walk-in shower. The previous vanity had two cut-outs, severely limiting the amount of cabinetry available for storage.

The Process

We replaced the kitchen cabinets with custom cabinets that extended all the way to the ceiling, creating more storage. The small island and peninsula of the old kitchen were replaced with an oversized island, creating more usable counter space. New granite, backsplash tile, open shelving and lighting finished out the design.

The old master bathroom vanity was replaced with new custom cabinetry. We installed shiplap on the wall above the vanity, new granite, 12×24 floor tile, and lighting. The custom shower was our largest to date! It boasts three shower heads, a giant shampoo niche, and a water glide glass enclosure that mimics the style of a sliding barn door.
